Oh, man. Has MJM read anything on this? You'd think that one person stuck a thermometer in the ocean once and came up with this global warming idea. Decades of work, by huge numbers of people, with continual refinement of climactic models. Boatloads of data. So far, I've not seen intelligent rebuttal, which in my mind means rebuttal which accounts for the data so far collected, or provides new data which support a different model of climactic change.

If technology had developed in the way that some are debating this issue, we wouldn't even be riding horses, much less driving Saabs.

I'm not saying that I'm of the opinion that the current climactic models are complete. They never will be. It's a process of continual refinement. But we must work with the understanding we have, with the current refinement of our model.

With global warming, the recommendations are that we reduce our consumption of fossil fuels. It is the best treatment we know at this point, based on our current understanding of the "disease", but it's not like it's a bad idea anyway. Fossil fuel supplies will dwindle drastically within this century, so when are we planning to make the switch, to develop adequate non-fossil fuel technologies?

BTW, it's interesting to think that the technological evolution of a culture probably requires the use of the fossil fuel sources on their planet, to make possible the transition to more sophisticated power sources. We need to view both our dependence upon and transition away from fossil fuels as a necessary step in the evolution of our technologies.
