I've been in Maine for all my life except for college.
Maine is a popular place to visit, especially on the weekends, but weekdays are nicest for driving around.
For live music in Rockland ME,

Most places in Maine aren't crazy places, so really nice live music is usually a special event. Maine Lobster Festival is a popular event as well. Check ticketmaster for big name events.
http://maineforestrally.com/ will be fun
http://www.ohtm.org/ is a nice automotive and airplane museum, lots of good special shows in the summer as well as a decent all around museum.
http://www.HiramMaxim.com/ looks like a fun time for the 2nd amendment folks.
Acadia National Park has some of the nicest roads in the state (federally maintained) that are beautiful and twisty. Nice place to drive around, and don't forget to get some hiking in as well. It's more patroled than it used to be, so it's not as likely to be a tire melting paved rally stage like it used to be. Still fun though. Outside of the park, driving in Bar Harbor is a nightmare - fortunately, it's not a huge town. Avoid this town on the weekends.
Elsewhere in the state, There are many roads that branch off the popular routes (such as route 1) that are nice drives. Either drive it toward the peninsulas on the ocean, or inland a ways. No straight sensibly designed roads here.
I'm not much of a shopper, but freeport and kennebunkport in southern maine are favorite outlet towns highly regarded by the shopping type.
http://www.farnsworthmuseum.org/ is a popular art museum in the area. There are lots of art galleries and antique places along the coast. Otherwise, the bigger new England cities have good art museums, such as Portland ME, Boston, and Worcester MA.
You may want to get a copy of Downeast magazine's vacationtime guide for a schedule of all the special events in Maine.
