When I lived in Rome my roommate had a new Opel Corsa diesel, which got great mileage, gave good performance. and was a darn fun, nimble car.
my other (better?) half inherited a Mercedes 300TD, 1983, which is a great tank of a car, makes a rattling sound that i like, and gives about 35 mpg on the highway which is better than my 900 despite its whale-like weight. fine wine ages faster than it accellerates, but there is something very pleasant about the rumbling steady progress.
my neighbor has a rabbit diesel which she said gives a steady 40+ mpg.
now there are exactly three passenger car models in the US which offer a diesel.
kinda lame.
