I can't tell you how many friends and family have dismissed our desire or a wagon. "You NEED an SUV!" is all I seem to hear. The more I hear it, the more I'm against it.
Admittedly, the two advantages are towing and, as you mentioned, the advantage of loading in the little one. I just don't think it justifies the lack of safety and fuel efficiency. And sadly, the only SUV that really appeals to me is the Land Rover Discovery/LR3. I would be hard pressed to pull the trigger on one of them (due to spotty reliability), especially being my wife's primary driver.
Yeah, price range is basically low to mid twenties. Unfortunately, our Audi and VW dealer are one and the same. I don't have any personal experience with them but have heard mixed reviews.
