The transverse engine are probably worse to work on than the inline ones.
The family has had 10+ VW's. A 89GLI that went way past 250k and it's still on the road somewhere. I don't dislike them. I had both a 2000 and a 2002 GTI's and I doubt I'd go back to VW unless it's for a diesel. Unless the got rid of the plastic tubes all over the place.
The dipstick tube broke while doing the oil and it was maybe to 10th change in it's life. It just snapped in half.
Sorry Mom, you're car isn't drivable until can get to the dealer.
The check engine is on right now - we'll see what that's about.
There's better stuff out there.
