Although I wouldn't necessarily call them similar sized (EPA classifies Regal as midsize and Verano as compact), I don't doubt the Verano has impacted Regal sales. Regal sales dropped nearly 40% during Verano's first year and another 24% the following year. The 2014 refresh brought sales up a bit last year but they're still well below 2011 numbers. It just seems that the Regal hasn't been getting the type of incentives it needs or should have to deal with relatively low sales and high inventories. It had a horrible month in January with just 792 sales.
I also think there needs to be a better balance between the huge old stock rebates on the 15% of a dealer's inventory versus the practically zero rebates, unless you qualify for conquest or loyalty, on the other 85%. You can easily find situations where one 2015 Regal has a $5000 rebate while another otherwise identical 2015 Regal has potentially has nothing. That's quite a difference. They should give the other 2015s SOMETHING or make the old stock apply to only leftover 2014s or both.
