I don't think Buick's challenge is quite that simple . KIA appeals to the younger folks and has that association - something new and vibrant and different from what has appealed to the older generation - many of whom can still be seen driving LaCrosses at 10 mph under the posted speed limit. So Buick is not perceived as hip and has little appeal to gen x types - maybe with the exception of the Encore. Some Japanese brands are seeing a good many younger buyers choose KIAs and Hyundais over Hondas Nissans and Toyotas as well.
You see that sentiment regarding Buicks expressed by some posters on this board as well - a deep rooted belief that Buicks are for the older generation and not at all a vehicle they want to be seen in.
And since I'm in Denver and I wouldn't want to be seen in a brand that has Peyton Manning or Tiger Woods as their pitchmen as both are decidedly over the hill.
