that actually can be a safety concern... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Mon, 1 Jun 2015 06:41:34 In Reply to: Just to be clear..., AeroEd, Fri, 29 May 2015 09:21:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
obviously if you own the car, you will get used to it, but unpredictable power delivery is not a good thing, and especially delayed power delivery. We once rented a Subaru Outback with a big V6 etc all the bells and whistles, and it had power, but the 4 speed automatic was seriously awful! I was having so much trouble getting it to downshift to pass on the highway, I started counting seconds... 7 seconds, then whoomp! So I'm passing a truck at maybe a mph or so for 7 bloody seconds, and just when I finally get by, the damn car throws on the afterburners! Considering that one should never spend more than 2 seconds in a blind spot, I would consider that a safety hazard.
I'm not saying the Dodge is that bad (and this was 15 years ago, Subys presumably have improved also, though I have yet to drive one with a decent autobox), but this common trait of needing to downshift, but not wanting to for fuel economy reasons is undesirable and bordering on unsafe. Common in many cars.
One could argue in the same vein that the torque steer on a Viggen (with stock suspension) is also unsafe. That said, I would argue that it is at least more fun!!
