raising your boost some more, trying to achieve your targeted boost level of 21 psi is going to make you drastically alter your timing and fuel curves to avoid detonation. Ultimately keeping your engine from making maximum power. If you were running water right now, you would not have to be keeping your A/F as low as it is now and would make more power.
I would suggest that you add water now to save your self extra tuning hours re-doing your fuel maps which will need to be altered if you ever add water.
In Jim's case with DI-APC, adding water would be very appropriate. His DI system for ignition control is more sophisticated then most if not all aftermarket systems, being that it is microprocessor controlled and actively seeks the optimum ignition timing. So I would argue that his lack of power production can't be related to that system. Who knows what SPG9 did for his fuel chip but if they appropriately changed the maps for a conservative A/F ratio, that would leave us with fuel grade as being the real culprit here. Low 90's octane gasoline cannot handle boost levels that are much above stock. Hence, water injection which allows for maximum iginition advance and higher A/F ratios, all of which add up to achieving an engines real potential.
By the way, did you ever get any charts of your dyno runs? It would be interesting to see what your HP & Torque curves looked like especially with the additional 1000 RPM you went up to.
