Well, I'm sure you guys are more than happy with your "stage 4" softwares. I know how it transforms a 9000 Aero, since I've run one with the software it emanates from for close to a year. Wonderful software indeed, with nice driveability, improved gas mileage etc.
But that's back when I was a novice in Saab tuning. Once I started investigating some more I soon realized that I was not happy flooring the accelerator in my Aero anymore, knowing that the EGT's will soon reach more than critical levels. And, yes, we do have some open space here in Sweden to do prolonged WOT runs.
The results of the investigation were quite clear: 1) injectors were running at more or less 100% duty cycle and 2) the stock intercooler does not provide sufficient cooling (since the stock turbo is quite small). The solution was the development of what today is MapTun stage 4. This kit was developed on my car as well as a couple of friends with identical red Aeros. I've had 5-6 different variants of this software and during the last couple of years I've had the opportunity to drive at least 10 additional variants. This kit has been dyno tested up to 347 hp (dynamic) and 325 hp (static), all using appr. 8% drivetrain loss. EGT's have been measured and are within factory spec's for the MHI turbo. Can't remember the numbers off hand though.
Driving that car to the limits I always felt completely reassured that I had the hardware to back up the power, not that I was on the virge of total meltdown.
You guys are, naturally, free to run your "stage 4" software. I'm just trying to point to the fact that this kit pushes the limits of the hardware beyond the acceptable.
Best regards,
Karl
