As mentioned by Bob above, the Ford "Pinto engine" pistons fit inside, although they are not ideal.
I've been running sich Pinto on my Rally Saab 96 V4 (91.5mm bore, from Hepolite) for quite some time and it worked ok for me.
Compression is up to 10.8:1 I think if I calculated correctly regarding the piston top in tdc (about flush with the engine block top surface).
I am now building a proper engine with better pistons that I sourced through an engine shop in Sweden.
Hm, if you go bigger valves, it only makes sense if you do a proper head porting job. Otherwise you can skip the big valve job as it will only make sense (=more power) if you do a full porting job on both inlet and outlet channels on the cylinder heads. And the intake manifold needs to match this, too - so also will need some porting...
I can back up Bob's advice: do some more research on engine tuning in general and have a look on what are the common mods done on the V4s by people who are succesfully tuning theses engines.
Bob mentioned Peter Carson who seems to be quite busy building engines (seen a lot by him in some facebook group). He took over some of the know-how, parts and machines from Jack Ashcraft.
As I am in Europe I can only see what Peter shows in the FB group. Some stuff seems very good, some stuff I (and other more knowledgeable peope) don't fully agree with him as some things he does are not consistently following the general approach of positive mods. But I think in general he builds nice engines that will give good power and fun to drive. :-)
A good starting point and guideline for tuning the Saab / Ford V4 engine is the Saab Sport&Rally tuning manual from Saabs works rally team. It is available on the internet. So read this and you get a first idea of the how to...
