If it were my 9-5 & I was at all concerned about heading off sludge at the pass...
I'd get online & order a bottle of Auto-Rx. Change the filter (only) & add it to my existing semi-syn fill (changing the filter should remove enough oil to add the 10 oz of Auto-Rx you need). Follow the instructions for cleaning & rinsing. Then, start using only premium fully synthetic 5W-40 oil from either Mobil 1 or Amsoil, & change it every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. (You'll get better protection & less wear than using semi-syn every 3k-5k miles.)
But that's just me...
