Ok---so where do I get a UOA? Will the dealer do it if I ask? And help me interpret the results? And will they help me with the Auto-Rx treatment? I do know how to add stuff through the oil filler cap, but changing the oil filter is beyond my powder-puff mechanics ability. Or should I go to a independent mechanic for this? There are several good Swedish car specialists here in Seattle. With my previous Saabs (three 99's) I only took them to an indy mechanic. But with this car, I've had very good service from the dealer, so I've stuck with them. But so far, at least on the phone, they haven't been very interested in the sludge thing. (That's why I came here for advice---and you've all been very helpful).
As far as the type of driving. . . someone mentioned this was a factor in the sludge question. My 52K miles have been half local trips of 5 to 15 miles, and half long road trips, including one of 880 miles in one day---I left Snowbird Utah in the morning, and made Seattle in time to catch the 8:30 pm ferry to get home. With the ergonomic seats and the stereo for company, I wasn't even tired.
