Hey Peter! How've things been with you & your Saab?
Of course, you're right about engine design diferences. And I tend to forget about the 2.3's venting problem, since I don't see that on my 2.0. With these points in mind, I'd definitely do the Auto-Rx clean/rinse & then switch away from semi syn to some type of long-life, dual-rated, ACEA A3, PAO full syn.
For Lola to get a good idea of what's going on inside the engine, a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) is invaluable & can actually help save money by showing how long we really can go between changes. After a few consecutive UOAs, there should be enough info to decide how long is safe for our own particular combination of engine & driving style.
