I've paid over $1000 for each of the two t-belts I've had done on two of my 9-5s. And that doesn't require a terrible amount of car disassembly to accomplish, mostly just taking out the right front inner fender liners & splash pans. Both times were with Saab parts at an independent shop. Both times were with water pump, and the first one had the thermostat and oil cooler cover done as well.
Last weekend, I did a timing belt and front oil seals on my 1995 Volvo 945 wagon. Total parts & supplies was $160... Had to borrow couple specialized tools, but not a lot of car discombobulation required... Longitudinal 4 in an engine bay designed to take a straight 6... Easy Peasy.
