what size do you run on the 9000? are they 195 width? 185? Like Boris, I think you could probably get away with 195 on the right rims for the 9-5. 185, I dunno. What is the difference in weight? To be honest, I did not see much change going from 215 to 205, so I wonder how much better going to 195 will be. One downside to a narrow profile will be on clear roads, especially highways. What makes sense depends how much of each you do.
Graspics don't seem to have a very open tread pattern. I could certainly see that clogging more and feeling more floaty. The Hakka R (on our 9-5) seems too optimized for low rolling resistance (vs clearing ability). It is a decent highway tire, but not as grippy in bad conditions as the numbered Hakkas. It is however just as progressive, which is nice. Some tires (eg Blizzack) are not as progressive in their loss of grip. R2 looks like a better tread pattern plus it has grit in the rubber. Reports I've heard have all been positive. If you can run studs, I would look at the hakka 8. If you wanted cheaper, I would look at the clones of the hakka 5 from General, Cooper, Pirelli, etc (or the real thing from Nordman - Nokian's cheaper brand). Running this sort of tire without studs may be better than running something that doesn't clear as well. We can't use studs, and though those tires are better with studs, they do well without them also. Well, at least on the c900's. We've only had Hakka R and Michelins on the 9-5. Neither were that great in snow.
