It depends on the "not that bad" rust. If it is truly minor, I'd likely list it here in the saabnet classifieds and be as honest as possible. A DIY here could easily fix the issues you listed.

No, you will not get a lot for it but it will go to a good home and if your kid is "over it" it's time to let it go. Don't let yourself get hung up on the sunk cost of maintaining it up to now. That was the cost of driving it. (And I get my self hung up on sunk cost All The Time.)
