Thanks to all for your comments. The kid has basically gotten over the fun of driving a Saab, but after getting stranded a couple states away last summer - which was a crazy experience only saved by Bernie's expertise - she's pretty much done with the car, I think.

I myself went through a similar situation last summer. My '01 5-speed manual 9-5 Aero had developed terminal frame rust at 185K. I donated to a veterans group. It was a pretty depressing experience, all in all. I ended up with a 2019 Volvo S60 T6/Polestar tuned sedan. A lot more "computery" than the Saab, but a thing of beauty nonetheless,IMHO.

If it were just me, I'd get the car fixed and soldier on. Sunk Cost? Phew! Not going there...
And feeding it 3K right now doesn't address the bad ABS module which becomes a problem when it's time for inspection. I'd guess to fix the A/C, heat and ABS might be another $3K or so.

We know of one Saab master tech still working a couple days per week for an indy shop in this area - he's worked on all of our Saabs. The spouse has a 9-5 '06 Arc wagon, which she doesn't drive all that much. My other kid has a '04 Aero wagon that's become pretty much permanently garaged due to terminal rust issues.

So, I guess for the time being the wagon will sit in the driveway. It's "driveable" but what with the oil leak and bad rear brakes, not very far. Maybe Craigslist first, then here.
