Keeping four 9-5s going, from 2000-2009, it seems it just takes regular maintenance and the willingness to invest in repairs. As the Car Talk brothers used to say, “Every time I fill it with gas I’m putting more into it than it’s worth.” If you have someone who can work on the car, that’s the most important thing. It’s important to fix things as they present themselves rather than let the list get too long and overwhelming. Looking at prices of newer cars I see real money pits! I can’t see anyone keeping those cars running for 20+ years with all the complex electronics. It makes sense to have a body shop treat the rust as rust repairs are the toughest items to deal with, if you can even find someone willing to do that work. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. An experienced AC shop can probably fix that although it won’t be cheap. AC hoses are getting scarce, but they can probably be made to order. The compressor and other AC parts are available.
