I’m definitely prejudiced, but I would put some money into it to get it back in shape. It would still be a fraction of the cost of the Subaru. Alternatively, look for another 9-5 wagon (or maybe a 9-3) in better condition and from an area that doesn’t use salt. Then sell the 2004 wagon to someone who can fix it up. That CVT transmission Subaru uses takes some getting used to but there are a lot of them in the road so I suppose you do get used to it after a while. Maybe I’m spoiled, but I don’t find their seats that great either.
