The single pump in the 70s was a killer of a pump.....the same Bosch number as the Porsche 930 turbo in at least one Saab application.
The Walbro pump is a windshield washer pump in comparison to that 930 Bosch.
So, I'm really impressed with the suggestion Justin made regarding the flat bottom tank and how the nested basket idea keeps fuel flowing regardless of low fuel and turning left / right. Having said that, I suppose we should clarify that the earlier prepump setup "worked" but only if the prepump was operating. Ergo the stories about people who had to have at least a quarter tank of fuel to keep the car running.
So, somebody had the thinking cap on bigtime, trying to fix the stupid pre pump that mechanically fills the basket vs the single insert with all the circulation plumbing.
This is one of those great U toob opportunities for someone to take a clear tank, and circulate green beer or Cmyles colored Applejack through clear lines to watch what happens. Like the guys on that show about Oak Island treasure hunting that put green dye in the "money pit" to see where the water comes out in the ocean........
