SO apparently there are no sages still with us; proceeding...... OK, no such luck with sage installers.
I'm removing the old adhesive on the "head crossmember" at the windscreen. GOO be GONE is getting that job done. There are tack strips which I'm going to replace both at the #1 position (forward, the aluminum machined bar that clamps to the windscreen.
I will have to drill out the rivets which are holding the tack strips (which you staple/glue to top fabric to). Originals are steel, and I'll find out is SS is an option for my Big Daddy rivet tool.
The #4 bow also has the tacking strip attached to it; I need to remove the zipper for the back window so I can see if there are rivets back there as well.
Found an original SAAB convertible top download with high quality pics, so that should answer my questions about what goes where.
The remaining burning question: to use the factory spacers "tools" which elevate the front bow perhaps 20 or 30mm above the normal position. The original PN from SAAB is 82 92 799 ( for convert. chassis J7004738 & onward). I'm guessing my 91 is part of the ONWARD group, but I need to confirm. Both tools like similar. I found one listed for sale almost 8 years ago, but that one is likely long gone.
I'll take pic and document my progress...... failure is not an option.
