Thanks Southsaab for the wisdom.

YES, it is apparent that it's all about the #4 bow. With the 3D shape of the top it must sit "just right" on that bow.....centered, not forward nor aft.

I removed the original zipper top piece from #4 yesterday; carefully dimensioned the CL from metal reference point on either side of the bow. I also measured the distance from the front of the bow to the edge of the "teeth" of the old zipper. The new top provider (M&T Manufacturing aka "TheConvertibleTopGuys") says simply to center and align the front edge of their fabric to the front edge of #4. I hope to fit check with clamps today.....since my rear section was OEM canvas, I'm betting the factory got it right.

The SAAB factory instructions show spacers used when rebuilding the canvas (I'm hunting for these , but probably a lost cause). I'm understanding the use of same will create the taunt assembly that will be smooth and tight when the latches are finally closed. IF I cannot find these tools, I'll have a machinist friend lathe up some extensions for the stock pins.

One strange difference from the SAAB instructions and the aftermarket, is the reference to a separate material at the front edge on #1 bow which they call the WELT. I'm going to compare the top I removed (EZ TOPs, probably junk) to see if such was present, but i don't recall seeing it when I removed the top. Perhaps the OE instructions were for a different design canvas than the original stye of German canvas?

Also, the supplier gave me new tack strips to be used front & rear. While the front one was in sorry shape (and I must replace; all broken pieces are out and I'm drilling out the rivets next) the rear one looks pretty good and I might retain the #4 tack strip.

I'll move some phone pics today add them to this discussion. Onward!
