We've have a '99 9-3 SE with 172K on it that has been sitting for much of the past year while daughter who owns it was away. Getting it going again last month I had some odd issues with lights flashing.

When we started it before Christmas it had plenty of oil (I checked) and started fine. When warmed up it ran ok, but when coming to a stop the idle would drop to ~300 rpm or stall, the oil light and exclamation light would flash. (This was on way to the gym in the dark.) Then it was OK on the way home, but wouldn't idle right--low or fluctuating. No oil or exclamation lights.

In daylight, I warmed it up and traced the idle problem to some bad vacuum hoses, including the long one from the hooter valve. All is normal once replaced. Car then went 100 miles to Vermont, spent a week there, ran fine over and back, although it does need a t-stat.

SO...
a bad vac hose can affect idle and pull it low enough to turn on the oil and other lights. If you have idle issues you might want to check your hoses and replace as necessary. For oil, I suggest Mobil 1 10-40 High Mileage. This is the higher spec stuff (ACEA A3/B3) and available in 5 gallon jugs for about $26 at Wally World. I run this in all 4 of our Saabs (two 9-3 SEs, a 9K and a 9-5) and they have minimal leaks. Two of them use some oil, but have for years. The newest of these cars is a '03 9-5 with 137K.
