The 0W/40 is one of the two favorite weights touted on this board. I support the other weight but there is nothing wrong with what you purchased.
The engine requires 4 liters of oil, which is approximately 4 quarts plus 8 ounces. As long as you don't pour in the full 5 quart bottle you will be fine. Do you have an empty one quart bottle with a side window that can be used to hold the un-needed 24 ounces for future topping off?
Sludge is caused by a breakdown of the oil due to the higher internal engine temperatures attributed to turbocharging. The filter will catch the sludge, but only until the filter is plugged enough to activate its internal by-bass valve. When the by-pass opens the sludged oil is free to roam throughout your engine.
