Overfilling the crankcase to the point that the crank is hitting the oil will create air entrainment in the oil. This creates a lot of problems for your oiling system, but basically in the end it equates to low oil flow and can starve all or certain parts of oil.
No offense to LMS but I don't think that changing to 40 weight will do anything for you. 40 weight can improve oil pressure, but it does so in a false way. First of all, oil pressure is not the bottom line that we're after. What we want is oil flow, and pressure is an easy indicator of that (an oil flow sensor is costly and would likely be less reliable). If you have low oil pressure it can basically be from two things: worn main bearings or an oil pump that is not working properly. Yes, using thicker oil can increase the volumetric efficiency of your oil pump, as well as provide more resistance in flowing through the various cavities and components. All of these things can result in higher oil pressure. However, that added viscosity reduces flow, so you'll still be getting the same or lower flow than with a lower weight.
