Although I of course knew many of the problems from the Subaru transmission seemed to stem from abuse, I never knew the special shifting technique required for Subarus. Hopefully, all Saab 9-2 owners will get a copy of that or a similar document on how to shift their car.
As I would imagine Subaru buyers are not getting that document, and then they bring in their car with a blown tranny and clutch at 20K or whatever...only to be told a) no, we won't fix your tranny under warranty--that'll be $4K or something, b) and you owe us $500 for diagnosis right now, and lastly c) you've been shifting wrong all along....if you had been shifting properly this wouldn't have happened. Kinda like locking the barn door after the horse has run off...if in fact they were not infomred of the proper way to shift when they got the car.
Now, would the racers listen to this proper way to use the Subaru manual transmission? most probably not, but some would...and I would at least like to be armed with this information whether or not I choose to follow it...which I of course would.
