Interesting to look at it that way...he just may have meant really flooring it--and right, you defintely shouldn't do 6k clutch drops for the 2-3 shift either. It sounds like we have the same thoughts on driving/shifting...and maybe just had different interpretations of the article.
And I'm not surprised your brothers havn't had any reliability problems with their Subarus--their reliability was one of the major reasons I almost bought a Legacy Outback Wagon a few years ago (as well as AWD) as I "had" to have an AWD wagon...but I ended up going for an Audi A4 Quattro Wagon instead--my old Saab's handling spoiled me--the Subaru's lack of handling/performance compared to the Audi was the deciding factor...but now the 9-2 has me thinking about coming back to Saab, but oddly enough every now and then I hear a little bit about Subarus legendary reliability slightly dipping, hence my strong interest in this thread...
Although its beginning to sound like Subarus becoming less reliable could solely be a result of their buyers getting younger and driving the cars a lot harder--not any inherent problems with the cars.
