I'm conpleting my PhD in Higher Education Administration (with hopes be an Atheletics Director at a DI school). I have been working f/t as a school psychologist (3 years of f/t grad school) and love my job but knew that I wanted to "finish" up my education with a doctorate. My advice to you is that you really need to talk to lots of folks and find out what their jobs are and how they got there. You'll find that there is no "one" way to do it. Go back to your undergrad. career services dept. and talk with them. Or go to a local university and speak with them. Email is another great way to get info. about programs and their job prospects. Go to a Barnes and Noble and check out their job market section books. Ask more questions here...this is a great website with many intelligent (not always displayed by degrees!!!) folks.
I'm not much older than you (28) and have found that grad. school was a great place but earning a real salary is much better! Nevertheless, most grad. schools offer TA positions that will likely pay most of your expenses.
Good luck and feel free to email me off-site. I love the college atmosphere (as shown by my intended job) and love the K-12 setting (as shown by my current job)
