Not sure where you live, but try a Lemond. They have a longish top tube and are typically easier to fit a taller person. Lemonds are also high quality steel which for a recreational rider usually proves more comfortable. Steel frames flex a bit more than aluminum and over teh long haul are far more forgiving, easier on the bones and body.
I'm 6'2" and have raced and worked in shops for over 15 years, though thankfully I have a real job and real $$ now. I can afford to ride whatever I want but I still buy steel.
Another good material is titanium but is much more costly.
Biggest thing is fit, and for you a Lemond would be best for your size.
I'd be happy to talk to you on the phone and help if you like. Worst thing that cvan happen to a person just getting started is to buy a bike that doesn't fit. Those people are always turned off and quit.
Hope this helps.
Andrew
