You're right that probably most of DC is full of poor blacks. I never see this side of DC because smart people who value their personal safety don't venture to those areas. But there are many, many, many blacks in the nice areas of the city and suburbs. I don't believe these blacks are descriminated against. Maybe they believe they are, but I can tell you as a white guy, I accept them completely as my American brothers, as cheezy as that sounds. But on the other hand, I want nothing to do with the poor people in the ghetto. Its not a race thing- its just that I fear for my safety, and blacks resent whites there so whats the point. Surely their situation is due in part to the tragic history of blacks and slavery in this country, but I can't remember the last time I personally took part in an act of descrimination. They imagine that theyre discriminated against because theyre black, when really its because they have no education, etc. The basic problem in my view, (just like for example poor whites in Appalachia) is that blacks in the ghetto have little or no contact with their affluent counterparts (white AND black) in the middle and upper class regions of the America. This breeds distrust on both sides. I don't doubt that blacks in the ghetto feel discriminated against.
