We replaced the original windows in our circa 1942 house a couple years ago. There must be 20 different companies that would love to do the work for you. Anderson windows are about the best. They are vinyl coated wood. They are really, really expensive. Don't bother with the ones that have argon between the panes. The gas will leak out in about five years.

All that being said, shop around. Have the sales guys come to your house and show you their samples. After three or four visits you'll know as much as you need to know to make a choice. We ended up spending $16K to get 15 windows and two 8 foot sliders replaced.
