like Marvin, Pella, Anderson, etc.
The reason is that if the window is damaged you can get replacement panes and parts easily--as in a few days--compared to lesser brands. Plus they work and they hold up. You do get what you pay for.
My dad was a builder and he put Andersons or Pellas in most houses, in part because he never had to think about them again and knew people would be happy. They have good guarantees.
FWIW, we are getting ready to build a summer place and one builder we're talking to is trying to sell us some off-the-wall brand, mostly be telling us how much less expensive they are than Andersons. The other recommends Andersons because he likes the quality and says they are the only ones he orders than don't have at least part of the order wrong or arrive one or two windows damaged.
Shop around, and if you are using a contractor, get his input, too.
