Long and slow workouts will burn more (calories and fat) versus explosive like workouts. It's aerobic versus anaerobic work. Each type of workout has it's place, don't get me wrong. Yes, building a bit of muscle will certainly increase your metabolism as well. In my opinion - mix it up. Do long runs (2 - 3 hrs) twice a week, if you can, and do your "normal" routine on the other days. The problem I see is that everyone is so different. What works for me, may not work for you. If your goals are to shed a few lbs and tone up - I'm sure you're on the right path. If you want to add endurance and fast twitch muscles - you'll have to alter your workouts. Whatever it is - just glad you're doin' something!!
