I am going to stick with the D70s because I have it. I guess the question is how much you really want to use the old lenses. I am not really using my old, non-auto focus lenses on the new body very much. The autofocus works well, and you can pick what portion of the scene the camera focuses on with various focus spots, modes, and focus lock. The shot would have to be pretty special. Metering with another lens or meter, or just bracket (which is automated if you like in digital SLRs). Another issue not talked about so much is the viewfinder view. Since the mirror is smaller, like the sensor, some of the viewfinders give a smaller image. That is the case with the D50 and D70, and they have penta mirrors, not penta prizms. Focusing with the mark 1A eyeball is not easy on the smaller focusing screen, with no rangefinder notch or other optical focusing aid. There is the electronic focusing indicator in the viewfinder. I believe the D200 has larger (magnified) viewfinder and the prizm which should be brighter. Right now, I view the lenses as more costly than the bodies overall. The 50 mm I bought is usable on full frame film cameras as well. It is maybe a crap shoot on what size sensor there will be five or 10 years from now. Maybe it is a little like computers were (still are a bit) in that technical standards are not yet standard and that whatever one buys is instantly obsolete. How about buying one of the better, but older, digital SLRs with a Nikon mount to see how you feel. In the end, the D200 is expensive. Get a D50 and see how you like it all? I'm waiting for the cost to come down before I get a different body. I would rather have a new lens or two.
