I've had a Nikon F4s for about 15 years, and an Olympus OM10 for a couple before that. I liked the Olympus for it's small size and simple operation, their lenses were good but very limited. The Nikon was used mostly for sports photography as I needed bigger lenses and faster focusing and frame rates. Then the cameras didn't get used much for a couple years, except for shooting panoramas from atop radio towers. (The Nikon is suitably rugged for the task)
My photography has been reinvigorated by a Nikon digital SLR and I can use the same lenses. I have taken probably 15k pictures in 4 years with the D100. It's been more expensive than film, but still very worthwhile. and a most creative time.
We had a daughter 9 months ago, and I got out the film camera. I have delivery room photos in color and black and white. The digital color is objectively superior, the black and white 400 is subjectively superior.
I've shot about 20 rolls of black and white since. (And many gigs of digital) I like mostly Tmax400 and some Tmax100 and develop it myself in D76. Things with lots of gradual shadows and skin tones, the black and white film is better, things with rich color or extreme low light, digital does better.
