...I hear what you are saying OldSaab, but I never said rude or disreputable.
I mean that a buyer needs to ruthlessly set a price and stick to it. It is in the art of negotiation. I was always calm, and polite. I was however willing to walk away even after a 5-6 hour drive to get there. I saved 3K by being cold calm and collected. You need to play the reverse bluebook game. You need to do your homework. You need to say "this is what the car is worth, this is what the book says you paid wholesale but I doubt you spent that much, and this is what I am willing to pay given this is the end of the year." The likes of Donald Trump and Bloomberg are ruthless. Educated, polite, but not willing to spend a penny more than a value they set. I doubt they are rude despite being hard core and arrogant on TV shows.
Another point is that you are the customer, not a seller. A seller needs to worry about repeat customers. A buyer does not need to worry as much about repeat purchases. If you have the $ someone will sell to you unless you are a complete corn hole.
