Put together a new machine over xmas. Installed Vista Pro x64 just to check it out. I've had zero issues. It does use a ton of ram (45% of my 2 gigs), but I haven't really noticed any real performance loss. Odd one is when I installed 4 gigs of ram, Vista took note and loaded even more into the ram.. but again, with gaming and general apps, it isn't by any means sluggish. Then again, my machine is severe overkill for about anything out there (watercooled, overclocked, etc.)...
Vista was much nicer to install than XP too btw, particularly when using a raid. I do find it intrusive with the "are you sure?" popups for every program I start, but supposedly I can disable that security feature. I can't though understand what exactly is better with Vista than XP except that Vista will continue to get updated when XP will eventually become a legacy product.
