If your getting a new PC I'm not convinced it matters much. Sure I like XP better as it is more familiar. You'll curse things but that is cause it has changed more than anything and at some point you'll have to adjust anyway. If you buy a pre-built box you just need to disable all the crap that you don't need and get it looking to your taste. The worst new computer out of the box I ever had was actually running XP. The darn thing was throwing errors, crapping out, pegged on memory. Once all the manufactures' extra programs were disabled it was fine.
But what do I care or even know. I am typing this on an old PC running Linux and not the PC with XP or the PC with Vista. Not really even sure what the box with Vista's primary role is going to be but deal was to good to pass up last Dec. I can get on with any of them though.
