The answer is..better Union Representation Posted by Railhead [Email] (#93) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Railhead) on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 09:43:45 In Reply to: Why support companies that overwork their employees?, Caarma [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 9 Jul 2008 11:11:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
80 hours a month isn't really the issue as I see it discussed here. Atul has some concern for the employee's well being. I was a workaholic for a lot of years. At age 19 I was working 2 jobs, and was able to buy my first home at age 20. ......but it eventually gets to the point of the old Paul Lynde line......"the rats are winning". For years I lived in a "right to work" state, and didn't realize the positive results of Union brotherhood until I was much older. The days of the old paternalistic employer are mostly gone. Yahoo! and Google are exceptions. If the employer can force long hours and bad pay, he might have loyal employees. Some people are content with lower expectations. Other people aren't. Some employers want happy employees, and some really don't care. The key to this post is:
"People often chose the comfort of known misery to the discomfort of unfamiliar uncertainty"
So, step out in faith and go for it....
