After a chat with a supervisor in the Business Resource Center and a few calls by her to the powers that be it was determined that as long as the item complained about is not specifically excluded under the new and/or CPO warranty there are diagnostic fees under the warranty to the consumer.
The dealer will still not get paid for its time if the time doesn't result in a repair, which is unfair, but at least the warranty is being correctly upheld. I think the dealer will do OK as it should get a good deal of warranty work.
I find it humorous that a legitimate warranty question turns into personal attacks on me and/or irrelevant comments that somehow prove me wrong. In each instance, it seems I ultimately turn out to be correct. There is a right and a wrong even though some may feel the right isn't worth the fight. It is always easier to cut and run.
For those interested CPO excludes trim issues, paint, wear (e.g., seat surface wear), minor adjustments, wipers, drive belts, brake pads, rotors, audio system, Onstar, clutch disk, telematics, battery, and tires. Basically, the new exclusions plus radio/audio system, battery, and telematics.
