Some do not worry about warranties. If a driver fails, there may not be a warranty if you fried it. In many cases, they will provide a replacement driver and are not interested in shipping the speaker cabinet back to a service center.

Replacing electrolytic caps will always provide a better outcome unless one has an amp with lots of distortion that needs to be masked.

One should have higher end main speakers that may have air core inductors all ready. The surround speakers are usually not high end gear. These can really be easily improved.

In my case, I have 5 Polk surrounds, 4 of them are tower speakers. These were $200 - $250 each originally. I got them on sale, 60% off with free shipping and no tax. With the crossover upgrades these really do a great job.

Even if the drivers are not perfect, improving the crossover can provide a great improvement. Drivers and cabinets can have some coloration, which is a different thing from information loss and distortion.
