As listed below, my neighbor had several problems with her ES 330 of 2004 vintage. When she stepped on her brake coming into a parking spot, the car blasted forward. Twice in two weeks. This car was less than three years old and had less than 20k on the odo.
I did a search of 2004 ES 300s and there were two dozen cases of Accel problems on the NHTSA website for this year and model. I think there is a problem with the 'TCS' or main computer. I'm guessing this was never resolved, and the mat issue is a red herring. Or at least there is more than one issue. Pretty scary when the car takes off when you step on the brake...
Strange that in all of the above cases, the dealer response was 'no defects found'. Forget the exact wording, but the denial was the same for all.
