The new PT lumber is not hazardous to your health. The industry was forced to change the formula. However, you have to use special fasteners and hardware with the new PT lumber. The new formulation corrodes regular galvanized fasteners and hardware at a rapid rate.
Myself, I like the new PVC fences. That's what I used around my pool area. Been holding up well for 6 years now--no maintenance. It also comes in colors like gray and tan now.
