What makes historical artifacts valuable is the relative rarity of them. People should be allowed to make their own mistakes. The nannies don't work for free. The cost of maintaining nanny state, in the forms of taxes, red tapes and corruption, usually outweigh the cost of grown adults learning from their own mistakes. Who knows, perhaps the preservation-minded folks can put some websites together to educate homeowners how and why they should consider enhancing their own home value by not taking out the old. When comes down to it, the defining modus operandi for government is not gentle persuation with reason by the barbaric violence at the end of a gun barrel.
