Cedar is low maintenance if you like the natural weathered look, otherwise you end up staining or painting it every few years. Built a cedar fence going on 20 years ago and it is still standing, neighbor hated the weathered look, offered to power wash it.
For 1x 6 verticals used 12 foot boards cut then in half, much straighter less picker over pieces that way.
