I think the 9000 would better complement your ng900. That is probably a wise choice + there may be compatible engine parts depending which engine you've got (eg di cassette?)... that is always handy for testing!
like others said, if you get a chance to test drive a c900, you should go for it just for the fun of it... they really are a blast (even the most pedantic grocery getters), but as others pointed out, the 9000 has better highway manners + creature comforts (not that c900 is bad - it's just older + less luxurious)... a 97 or 98 is really not that old either!
