The 9000 (I have 2, recently sold a third) is a whole different animal than the C900. Much more refined, better overall, and generally easy to work on. Very solid car and there are still some very good ones out there if you search a bit. Wonderful "long road" cars. Fast, stable, hold a ton of stuff, excellent gas mileage. And very reliable if you take care of things.
An Aero is great, although overrated IMHO. The seats are terrific, and the bigger turbo is nice, but you can get more power with a remap of the standard ECU and the smaller turbo. Seats are available used and can be re-skinned. Aeros are much harder to find in good shape. Most have by now had several owners and there's a tendency for the later owners to have ridden them hard and put them away wet. A better bet is a CSE or even a CS model with a 5 speed. They are less likely to have been beaten on and you can upgrade with used/new parts and an ECU remap.
My two, both '96 cars, are a CSE and a CS. The CSE has an Aero ECU, Aero suspension and SAS sway bars. (and a new clutch next week). The CS has Aero seats and a remapped ECU with about 240 HP. Both are very reliable and require only normal servicing and wear items at 182K and 150K. I won't sell either one for a long time.
You can probably find a nice '96 or later 9000 CS/CSE for well under $4,000. Probably even $3,000. Then put $3K into it in repairs and upgrades and have a really nice car that you can have for a long time. And you need to keep it because you just won't get the money back. But that's just how it is with older cars. 9Ks are worth keeping. Best Saabs ever made.
Just my 2 cents.
