It's very unlikely your conventional car would reach 300k without needing replacements and repair exceeding the cost of the vehicle. I would know, my 9k has 325k on it. Most likely you'll need at least one new transmission (what would that be, $5k at the dealer?) a head gasket job (probably $1k plus), a new turbo, etc. Replacing the battery is probably expensive, but these things are heavily computer supervised to last a LONG time. You can be sure they'll be a strong market for used lower mileage batteries and aftermarket suppliers will fill the need to.
All those hybrids being used as taxis in NYC now must have a heck of a hard life and tons of miles and seem to be going strong. Lots of people said electronic fuel injection would be the end of the home mechanic. We know that's BS now, I don't think they'll be a lot of barriers to economical and home repair of hybrids and electrics either.
