You're accusing Mark of using "strawman tactics"? Sorry, man, but that's a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Let's examine your original points:
1. You claim only 50% of energy can be recaptured because only two wheels are driven and regen braking only occurs via driven wheels. This is false in a couple of ways. First of all, all cars are not 2-wheel-drive, some are AWD, and any car could be so if the designers chose to make it that way. Also, except when coasting downhill, the car received all it's kinetic energy from the driven wheels - and that energy can just as easily be recovered through those wheels. That may not be true in the case of panic stops, where additional retarding force can be gained by braking all 4 wheels, but if all your stops are panic stops you've got problems way beyond energy efficiency. The average stop made by the average person under average circumstances uses a degree of retardation that can easily be achieved with just two wheels. I also reject your claim that the car would spin without rear wheel braking "in many situations". If you drive like Mario Andretti, yes that may be true. If you drive like an average person and the road isn't covered with snow or ice, the car's not going to spin with just front (or just rear) braking.

By the way, I think your argument may have been based on the assumption that during braking, a hybrid/electric car will be braked by regen on the drive wheels and by friction on the non-drive wheels. I can't claim to know the details of how hybrid/EV braking systems work but that is certainly not how they *have* to work. If the friction brakes are being applied at the same time as regen when it's not necessary for stability or max retardation, that's just bad design and not something inherent.

Point 2: regen braking does not work at low speeds. True as stated, but you left out the facts that don't support your argument, which are that "low speed" is about 5 MPH and kinetic energy goes as the square of speed. When stopping from say 40 MPH, the energy recovered while decelerating from 40 to 5 is many many times greater than the amount that cannot be recovered while going from 5 to zero.
